What does the 8th house show in astrology? It is associated with liberation from outdated or processed matter.

As I mentioned in the article about houses, the 8th house symbolizes:

  • The process of getting rid of outdated matter.
  • The places where this process takes place.

What Does the 8th House Mean?

The 8th House in Horary Astrology

In horary astrology, the 8th house reflects all possible aspects of liberation from outdated matter.

This can include:

  • Defecation, cleansing, and the places where this occurs — toilets, bathrooms.
  • Garbage disposal and waste dumps.
  • In the most general sense — death is the ultimate act of liberation from outdated matter.

In practice, the 8th house is often considered as the "2nd from the 7th." It can indicate the resources of partners or enemies — their lawyers in court, money, cars, and other movable property.

The 8th House in Medical Astrology

In medical astrology, the 8th house is associated with excretory organs — the genitals and the anus.

The ruler of the 8th zodiac sign, Mars, is also responsible for:

  • The left ear, bile, and iron in the blood.
  • The thyroid gland.
  • The body's immune response.

The 8th House in Natal Astrology

In a natal chart, the 8th house points to death and mortal threats.

Its significance becomes more specific in derivative charts, such as solar returns, lunar returns, or planetary transits. It can reflect the other person's assets, such as a spouse's money or an opponent's lawyers.

Planets in the 8th house

  • In horary astrology, a planet in the 8th house indicates someone's associated assets, such as shares or a vehicle.
  • In medical astrology, it often points to diseases of excretory organs.
  • In natal astrology, the meaning of a planet in the 8th house depends on its natural significance, celestial state, and the house it rules.

The Sun in the 8th House

By its natural significance, the Sun is associated with power, fame, and publicity. In the 8th house, it indicates a public death, but its influence heavily depends on the house it rules and its celestial state.

A debilitated Sun (in detriment or fall) foretells a public death or death decreed by authoritative structures. It can indicate:

  • A public death far from home or death by decision of foreign authorities if it rules the 9th house;
  • Death in public at the hands of an enemy if it rules the 7th house;
  • A mortal threat from heart disease if it rules the 12th house;
  • And so on.

A dignified Sun (in exaltation or its sign) promises protection from death:

  • Protection from mortal threats through friends if it rules the 11th house;
  • Protection from fatal threats far from home if it rules the 9th house;
  • Salvation from death through the efforts of a spouse or partner if it rules the 7th house;
  • Protection from death due to strong vitality if it rules the 1st house;
  • And so on.

Combining the Sun's significance, the meaning of the house it rules, and its celestial state, you can understand what it foretells in the 8th house of the chart.

The Moon in the 8th House

The Moon, as the natural ruler of water spaces and voyages, in the 8th house indicates the risk of drowning in general. However, the house ruled by the Moon and its celestial state determines its specific influence.

A debilitated Moon (in detriment or fall) foretells the risk of drowning or other threats related to the Moon’s nature. Specifically:

  • The risk of drowning during travels if it rules the 9th house;
  • A mortal threat from a female enemy or spouse if it rules the 7th house;
  • A threat of death from hypothermia or a stroke if it rules the 12th house;
  • And so on.

A dignified Moon (in exaltation or its sign) promises protection from mortal threats. Specifically:

  • Avoiding death during relocation to a new country if it rules the 9th house.
  • Salvation from death through the efforts of a spouse or another woman if it rules the 7th house.
  • Protection from death by a mother’s intervention if it rules the 4th house.
  • And so on.

Combining the Moon’s natural significance, the meaning of the house it rules, and its celestial state, you can understand what the Moon predicts in the 8th house.

Mercury in the 8th House

Mercury, according to its natural significance, symbolizes poisons and false accusations. In the 8th house, it amplifies these qualities. The house ruled by Mercury and its celestial state determines its specific influence.

A debilitated Mercury (in detriment or fall) foretells death due to poisoning or denunciation. Specifically:

  • If it rules the 9th house, it indicates a threat of poisoning in a distant country.
  • If it rules the 12th house, it foretells a fatal illness associated with Mercury’s nature, such as paralysis (CNS damage), poisoning, or death by denunciation.
  • If it rules the 10th house, it suggests a mortal threat due to misinterpretation of local laws or a wrongful sentence.
  • And so on, depending on the house.

A dignified Mercury (in exaltation or its sign) promises protection from mortal threats through helpers or cleverness. Specifically:

  • It protects from fatal threats through intellectual friends if it rules the 11th house.

Venus in the 8th House

Venus in the 8th house symbolizes a threat of death associated with women, poisoning by women, or illnesses related to Venus, such as sexually transmitted diseases. The house ruled by Venus, along with its celestial state, determines its specific influence in this house.

A debilitated Venus (in detriment or fall) foretells death linked to lust or women. Specifically:

  • If it rules the 7th house, it points to the threat of death due to jealousy, passion, or at the hands of a woman.
  • If it rules the 5th house, it predicts a mortal danger from dubious pleasures or sexually transmitted diseases.

Mars in the 8th House

Mars, the planet of violence, in the 8th house, points to the danger of violent death. The specific circumstances depend on the house Mars rules and its celestial state.

A debilitated Mars (in detriment or fall) predicts threats of violent death, indicating:

  • The threat of death in battle from an enemy if it rules the 7th house;
  • The danger of receiving a fatal injury during a long journey if it rules the 9th house;
  • Fatal diseases of Mars's nature, such as acute inflammations, infections, gallbladder issues, or other traumatic conditions;
  • The risk of death at the workplace or from an industrial accident if it rules the 10th house;
  • And so on, depending on the house.

A dignified Mars (in exaltation or its sign) retains its violent nature but simultaneously offers protection. It may predict:

  • A mortal danger related to robbery, but with successful rescue if it rules the 2nd house;
  • Life-threatening battles with enemies result in injuries but end in victory and recovery if it rules the 7th house;
  • Acute inflammations or injuries that threaten life but heal quickly without severe consequences if it rules the 12th house;
  • The threat of an accident with possible injuries, but with a fortunate outcome if it rules the 3rd house;
  • And so on.

By combining Mars's inherent meaning, the house it rules, and its celestial condition, one can precisely predict Mars's influence in the 8th house.

Jupiter, the planet of mercy and justice in the 8th house, signifies either the threat of death through legal judgment or protection from danger. Its influence depends on the house it rules and its celestial condition.

Saturn in the 8th House

Saturn, the planet of limitations and chronic ailments, in the 8th house, signifies death under challenging circumstances or due to prolonged illnesses. The house Saturn rules, and its celestial state determines the specific threats.

Debilitated Saturn (in detriment or fall) intensifies suffering and foretells a painful demise:

  • Death in solitude or by the hands of an elderly adversary if it rules the 7th house;
  • Death in prison, captivity, or from a chronic severe illness if it rules the 12th house;
  • Death due to poverty or starvation if it rules the 2nd house;
  • Passing away in a remote location or under harsh conditions abroad if it rules the 9th house.
  • And others, depending on the house it governs.

Dignified Saturn (in exaltation or its sign) retains the potential for life-threatening events due to its affinity with the 8th house but protects them:

  • Protection from deadly threat through hard-earned, long-term savings if it rules the 2nd house;
  • Prolonged and arduous confrontations with enemies, fraught with life risks, ultimately leading to victory if it rules the 7th house;
  • Escaping mortal threats from authorities or hidden enemies after significant struggles if it rules the 10th or 12th house;
  • And other outcomes based on the house it governs.

By analyzing Saturn's celestial state and the house it rules, one can decipher the events it predicts in the 8th house.

Where is the 8th House, and Which Planet Corresponds to It?

In natal astrology, the 8th house symbolizes death. The planets associated with this house are:

  • Saturn, as it governs death and fatal diseases.
  • Mars, as it represents violence and violent death, which aligns closely with the 8th house's meaning.

However, the planets show the deadly threats and circumstances surrounding your departure in the 8th house and the ruler of the 8th house, not Saturn or Mars on their own. The connection of these planets to the 8th house is explained below.

The Stellium of Planets in the 8th House

If several planets are located in the 8th house, each will indicate death-related events. Specifically:

  • Some planets may predict deadly threats.
  • Others may predict salvation from them.

The most influential planet will be the one closest to the cusp of the 8th house or controlling other planets by reception, or Saturn/Mars — the rulers of death and violence if they are in this house or govern it. In this case, we consider the connection of Saturn/Mars to the 8th house of death.

Since death is an inevitable event, a predominance of benefic planets in the 8th house promises only a long life filled with deadly threats, not eternal life. Sooner or later, death will come from old age on the nearest fatal direction, even from well-placed planets. In this case, the benefic planets will indicate the body's organs, from the wear and tear of which peaceful and easy death will occur.

N.B.: Planets in the 8th house do not describe crises but only deadly threats. They also do not describe spiritual transformation or sex but physical death. If the 8th house and its planets were not associated with physical death, we could never predict the exact day of a person's passing, as shown in this example.

In the first part of our course on predictive astrology, we explain in detail why many modern astrology methods don't work and teach you how to make accurate predictions.
